You are bidding on a vintage Keuffel & Esser engineer or architect survey transit in its original case (matching serial #'s). The '16981' serial number corresponds with a date of about 1908 (according to web search). It is in good cosmetic condition with some handling marks (unfortunately, I do not know if it has aged itself or previous owner worked on). Please view pictures for details.
It has 111/4" scope (extends to 123/4" with zoom/diopter adjustments), ~41/2" half vertical circle and ~5"-diameter compass face glass. It has fairly clean optics and has intact cross-hairs. Diopter adjustment, focusing, bubbles and compass seem to work. It comes with an 8oz plum bob. The box is in fair/good shape (showing its age/I don't have a key for it).
